An exquisite antique Victorian cuff bangle exhibiting a finely detailed colour portrait miniature preserved behind a glass window. It’s been skilfully painted with a rich palette of colours to replicate the famous Renaissance painting “Portrait of a young woman” from the 1400s. It sits atop a substantial silver gallery with scalloped edges and intricate, high relief cannetille workmanship, that extends down its broad shoulders and around the back of the piece, to a sliding pin clasp.

In the 19th Century, Portrait miniatures were painted in water colours or enamel and often depicted beloved family members, but sometimes paintings or famous figures as well. In this case, it portrays the famous “Portrait of a Young Woman” by Piero and Antonio del Pollaiuolo, a 15th-century Florentine Renaissance painting depicting the sitter in strict profile, typical of Florentine marriage portraits. It emphasises feminine beauty and provides a snapshot in time before the advent of photography, capturing the elegance, fashion, and ideals of early Renaissance Florence.

This exquisite and exceptionally rare Victorian silver cuff bracelet dates from the late 19th century and has remained in excellent condition. More than a fashion statement, it is a beautifully crafted, wearable work of art that is sure to be passed down as a treasured heirloom.
