A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain made up of faceted cable links and larger, interlocking feta links with jagged edges and engraved patterning down the sides. They’re fashioned in sterling silver and have been given a bright 18ct yellow gold finish.

Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.

It’s a wonderful antique chain, complete with the classic T-bar at the bottom and double claw clasp, both complete with Birmingham hallmarks dating to 1901 & 1904, suggesting one clasp was replaced at a later date.
