A wonderful antique Victorian Bohemian garnet brooch, depicting a ten-pointed star. It’s decorated with an abundance of rose cut garnets that have a blazing-red hue and glittering facets, surrounding a large, polished cabochon in the centre.
Bohemian garnet jewellery is desired for its abundance of rose cut garnets, also known as pyrope crystals. They were originally sourced in the region of Bohemia, which later became the Czech Republic and were highly sought after across Europe in the late 19th Century with their crimson red flame associated with passion and enduring love.
The open-work gallery is modelled in a gold composite, known as “Garnet Gold” and is fitted with a new pin and locking safety catch at the back, for extra security when worn.
This is a striking Victorian brooch, dating to the late 19th Century. It’s remained in great condition and displays exquisite workmanship and a luxurious collection of garnets.
