A wonderful antique Victorian Bohemian garnet locket/ brooch, featuring an abundance of rose cut garnets pave set across the front, exhibiting a blazing-red hue and neat triangular facets that glitter beautifully when they catch the light.
Bohemian garnet jewellery is desired for its abundance of rose cut garnets, also known as pyrope crystals. They were originally sourced in the region of Bohemia, which later became the Czech Republic and were highly sought after across Europe in the late 19th Century with their crimson red flame associated with passion and enduring love.
The piece is modelled in a gold composite, known as “Garnet Gold” and is fitted with a large glass window locket at the back that shuts securely. It’s fitted with a pin at the back and a foldaway loop on top, so it can be worn as either a pendant or brooch depending on the occasion.
This is a spectacular antique Victorian locket, dating to the late 19th Century and the perfect place to store a treasured photograph, or a lock of hair as was traditionally the case.
