A grand antique Victorian Albert chain made up of sterling silver curb links, each stamped with a sterling lion mark and gilded in a bright 18ct yellow gold. It’s complete with a T-bar suspended from the bottom along with a shield medallion engraved with forget me nots and a previous owner’s monogram.  

Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort in the 19^th Century and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake.

The clasps and medallion are stamped with various maker’s marks and hallmarks suggesting that each part has been added over time. The Medallion was made by Fattorini & Sons in Bradford (Circa 1880) and the clasps were made in Birmingham and are dated 1880 and 1912.
