A fabulous pair of antique Victorian earrings from the late 1800s built around two jet-black onyx spheres which are held in 18ct gold bands engraved with flowers.

Onyx is a form of chalcedony, distinct for its jet-black colouring and white bands. It became increasingly popular in the Victorian era when black jewellery was brought into fashion by Queen Victoria who wore the pieces as part of her mourning attire.

They’re a wonderful Victorian pair, in excellent condition and hang from gold hook wires.
