A beautiful antique Victorian bar brooch adorned with a colourful spider set with a green tourmaline head and a natural cabochon opal abdomen (approx. 5ct). 

Insect and Spider pieces grew in popularity at the turn of the 20^th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value. 

The spider sits perched upon a 9ct gold bar and forms a safety pin. It’s in excellent condition and a wonderful collector’s piece.
