This grand antique Victorian niello chain measures 16.8 inches and is crafted in contrasting silver and gold plate, richly decorated with striped, black niello detailing. The substantial links alternate between classic curb and curved trombone styles, accented by elegant, interlaced motifs at the centre. Smooth and well balanced, the chain is fitted with both a dog clip and a bolt-ring clasp to hold it secure.
Niello is a black metallic inlay fused into engraved silver or gold to create striking contrast and intricate detail. It was especially popular during the Victorian era, valued for its durability and bold visual impact at a time when ornate, highly decorative jewellery was in fashion.
