This grand antique Victorian Albert chain is composed of substantial sterling silver trombone links, each bearing the prestigious Lion Passant hallmark and richly gilded in warm 18ct yellow gold. Originally crafted as a gentleman’s watch chain, the piece has been thoughtfully converted over time into a stylish necklace, reflecting a tradition that arose during the First World War when women wore their loved ones’ Albert chains as sentimental tokens of affection, hope, and remembrance.
The necklace is fitted with a classic dog clip clasp and its original T-bar drop, stamped with the maker’s mark “L&P” alongside Birmingham hallmarks, dating it to 1880. Measuring 18 inches in length, it sits elegantly along the collarbone, making it ideal for layering with other necklaces or wearing alone as a bold antique statement piece.
