A magnificent vintage amethyst cocktail ring centred on an impressive cabochon amethyst weighing approx. 10 carats. The gemstone displays a saturated deep violet hue, enhanced by its smooth, domed surface and lustrous polish. It is bezel-set within a sunny 9ct yellow gold gallery, framed by milgrain and a rope-twist border, with split shoulders on either side.
Amethyst’s regal hue has been a favourite of kings and royalty throughout history and was said to provide clarity, protection, and wisdom to the wearer. Legend also links Saint Valentine to the stone, making it the birthstone for February and a popular Valentines gift as well.
The rings elongated setting sits comfortably along the line of the finger, creating an elegant, yet bold statement piece. It’s remained in excellent condition and is complete with clear hallmarks inside the band, indicating it was made in London by B.M.B Ltd in 1974.
