Amethyst’s regal purple-violet hue is said to provide protection, clarity and wisdom and was once reserved only for royalty. Legend also ties it to Saint Valentine, who was said to wear an amethyst ring carved with Cupid, making it the birthstone of February and a popular Valentines gift as well.
