A wonderful vintage Egyptian-revival snake slave bangle, built around a strong steel band that has been wrapped in a yellow gold base metal. The thick, coiled band is finished with an engraved serpent head and tail at each end, with the maker’s stamp on the back of the head.
Egyptian-style jewellery saw a revival in the 20th Century after an abundance of archaeological discoveries, most notably the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb, brought about a fascination and desire for Egyptian-themed pieces across Europe. Snakes were one popular motif and were a symbol of royalty and protection in ancient Egypt.
This stylish vintage serpent bangle dates to the mid 20th Century and expands so the snake can wrap comfortably around the wrist or, upper arm.
