A beautiful antique Art Nouveau pendant featuring depictions of scrolling ivy leaves that coil around a large 5ct (approx.) amethyst in the centre. It has a deep purple hue and is accompanied by three additional amethysts above and a sixth on a dropper below with bright, white seed pearls dotted on each leaf.
Amethyst is the birthstone of February and is considered a stone of protection, clarity and tranquillity. Its deep violet colouring has been highly esteemed throughout history, adorning regal jewellery all around the world, from ancient Egypt to the British crown jewels.
The pendant has a fabulous, open-work design, fashioned entirely in 15ct gold with a pin at the back so it can also be worn as a brooch. It dates to the late 19th Century (Circa 1900) and has remained in pristine condition.
