A beautiful antique Edwardian pendant decorated with eight deep purple amethysts, contrasted with gleaming white seed pearls. The centre amethyst is haloed by pearls and milgrain and weighs approx. 3ct on its own, with a grand total of approx. 6.5ct.
Amethyst is considered a stone of protection, clarity and tranquillity and has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty and deep violet colouring which has adorned regal jewellery all around the world, from ancient Egypt to the British crown jewels.
The piece has a fabulous open-work design with a wreath shaped border skilfully crafted in 9ct gold. It’s remained in excellent condition and has been fitted with a pin and locking clasp over time so it can be worn as a brooch as well.
