This sweet antique Edwardian swallow and opal Lavalier pendant dates to the Arts & Crafts period (c. 1910s). This rare treasure features an enormous natural opal suspended from two chains to a swallow above, finished in vibrant blue and green vitreous enamel. The mesmerising opal displays a distinctive, striped rainbow effect, shifting from neon mint green and electric blue to soft sunset pinks and oranges with the light. It’s secured in a distinctive "sawtooth" silver bezel, a hallmark of early 1900s hand craftsmanship, with a new sterling silver loop added to the top.

Steeped in sentiment, this piece was likely a token of love, and perhaps worn by a woman awaiting a partner's return from the Great War, as the swallow symbolised "Safe Return" and faithfulness, while the opal represented hope. This pendant was a wearable prayer for safety and tells a beautiful story of enduring devotion.

In excellent condition with preserved enamel and opal, this is an essential antique treasure for Art Nouveau collectors or romantic souls. A rare, meaningful piece that is ready to be cherished once again. Style it on a silver chain and let its magnificent opal catch the light and inspire hope once more.
