A colourful antique Suffragette chain from the early 1900s made up of 15ct yellow gold cable links interspersed with violet amethyst, green peridot and white pearl beads that look fabulous draped around the neck.
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white were often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”
It’s a lovely long chain measuring 20.5 inches and is held securely by a large ring clasp at the end.
