A fabulous antique Edwardian Suffragette brooch from the early 1900s, depicting a colourful sun, decorated with white seed pearls, six green peridots and a large violet amethyst in the centre (approx. 1.8ct).

Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white were often worn in support of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase “Give Women Votes!”

The antique brooch has a wonderful, open-work design with pierced workmanship around the sides, all fashioned in 15ct yellow gold. It’s a beautiful piece of Suffragette jewellery and is fitted with a secure pin and locking catch at the back.
