A sweet antique Victorian 9ct gold locket from the late 19th Century, featuring beautiful, embossed artistry across both sides, depicting a delightful scene of two birds and a nest of eggs on the front and a wreath of ivy leaves around the back.
The Victorians loved the natural world and ivy was one popular motif, often featured on lockets. It represented a loving, unbreakable bond, as in the Victorian rhyme “Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee”.
This antique locket is in excellent condition and has developed a lovely smoothness and patina with age. It’s complete with windows and one rim within, ready to house two cherished photographs or, a lock of hair.
