Dating back to the romantic fervour of the 1860s–1880s, this exquisite antique Victorian Bohemian garnet locket brooch features hundreds of glowing pyrope garnets, famed for their deep blood-red hue and fiery brilliance. Each stone is precision-cut in the traditional "rose cut" style, faceted on the top to catch the flicker of candlelight, and hand-set into a tiered, domed cluster of gold composite, or "Garnet Gold".
Turn the brooch over and you’ll find a secret glass locket compartment. In Victorian symbolism, garnets stood for passion, protection and eternal devotion, so this piece may have once been gifted as a token of undying love, with the locket holding a lock of a lover's hair, a mourning memento, or other keepsake to keep it forever close to their heart.
The piece is in excellent condition, a rarity for garnet clusters of this complexity, with the stones creating a rich sea of red. Its versatile design features both a sturdy pin and a bail, allowing you to wear it as a commanding brooch or suspended as a dramatic pendant. It’s the perfect acquisition for the serious collector or the modern romantic looking for a signature Victorian statement piece.
