An exquisite Antique mid-Victorian Cameo brooch dated Circa 1860. The Cameo has been hand-carved from a Bullmouth Shell and depicts a winged Angel knelt and praying. It displays intricate detailing and was carved by a true master of the craft.
Cameos have been carved since ancient times and saw a revival during the Victorian era due to Queen Victoria’s fascination with the pieces. Bullmouth Shell was often used as a base for Cameos for its beautiful natural patterning which takes expert skill to carve.
The Cameo is set in an ornate Base Metal frame and fitted with a pin and safety chain on the reverse to hold it securely in place.
This is a highly collectable piece and has been beautifully preserved throughout the years.
