This long antique French guard chain was crafted during the late 19^th Century and is made up of knotted, interlocking silver rings, gilded in 18ct yellow gold.

Guard chains were popular in the 19^th Century and fitted with a ring clasp at the end so that a pocket watch or lorgnette could be hung from the end.  

It’s very stylish and can be worn as one long chain or looped twice around the neck.
