This wonderful East-Asian antique Victorian jade talisman pendant depicts a spherical Bi disk and has been skilfully hand-carved from glossy nephrite jade. It’s suspended from an 18ct gold loop and exhibits a soft apple-green hue and natural grain, with a perfectly cut hole in the centre.
A stone of legend and mysticism, Jade has been valued by civilizations across the world for thousands of years and was particularly revered in China where it was known as the “gem supreme” or “jewel of Heaven”. A “Bi disk” in Chinese culture was a significant spiritual symbol, often carved from jade and represents wholeness, the cycle of life and death and the eternal nature of the universe.
Dating to the late 19th Century, this round Victorian jade talisman pendant is in excellent condition. It’s a beautiful work of art and perfect for those who adore Chinese design.
