A fabulous antique Victorian guard chain from the late 19th Century, made up of 9ct yellow gold cable links, interlocking fetter links, textured gold balls with spiral engraving and a hinged claw clasp at the end.
Guard chains were at the height of popularity in the 18th & 19th Century. Both fashionable and practical, they were deliberately long enough to be tucked into a belt and the clasp was often adorned with a pocket watch, lorgnette glasses or even a fur muff.
This luxurious Victorian Guard chain has an ample length of 31 inches. Worn alone or with a locket/ pendant, this antique chain effortlessly complements any outfit and is perfect for layering with other gold chains for more of a statement look.
