A magnificent Celtic Penannular brooch hallmarked and dated Sheffield, 1990. The sizable gallery is modelled in solid sterling silver and inlaid with golden highlights.
Seven deep red cabochon garnets also decorate the piece along with two natural lapis lazuli that display a vibrant blue hue decorated with golden speckles.
A Penannular is a type of Celtic brooch which was worn on the shoulder as a clothes fastener by Scottish and Irish elites during the medieval period. The style saw a revival in the mid 1800s and became a popular design for brooches and other jewellery accessories.
It’s a magnificent statement piece and very well made. It’s complete with a double pin and a fold-away loop so it can be worn as a brooch or a pendant.
