A marvellous antique Georgian Scottish necklace from the early 19th Century consisting of natural agate and quartz beads interspersed with matching glass beads that convincingly emulate agates. Each bead is polished and smooth and displays beautiful, earthy colours and marbled bands. They graduate in size toward a wonderful cross pendant hung from the bottom also made up of agate beads with gold pinchbeck settings.
Agate is a stone of the earth, worn throughout the ages for protection, healing and grounding with many different varieties, all displaying their own distinct colouring and patterned layers that are naturally formed, earning them the appropriate nickname the “Earth rainbow’.
It’s a magnificent and distinct statement necklace with a mesmerising collection of agate and glass beads, all held by a new sterling silver claw clasp at the top complete with faded hallmarks.
