A magnificent antique Edwardian paste lavaliere necklace consisting of ornate silver links leading to a spectacular open-work dropper pendant featuring pretty bow and floral motifs. Each link is bezel set with a large purple paste and accompanied by smaller clear pastes that together simulate amethysts and diamonds.
Paste is a heavy, transparent flint glass that has been used since ancient times to simulate the beauty of gemstones. The art of cutting paste takes expert craftsmanship and the highest quality stones are often able to replicate the cut, colour and sparkle of natural gems to near perfection.
The antique necklace dates to the early 1900s and has remained in excellent condition. It’s held by a safety chain and a flower-shaped box clasp at the end topped with further paste stones.
