This large, substantial antique Georgian paste cross pendant is modelled in silver and set with twelve chunky old cushion cut paste stones, including one on the square bale at the top. They all have a bright, icy-white sparkle and have been foil-backed to increase their brilliance.
Paste is a heavy, transparent flint glass that has been used since ancient times to simulate the beauty of gemstones. The art of cutting paste takes expert craftsmanship and the highest quality stones are often able to replicate the cut, colour and sparkle of natural gems to near perfection.
This is a grand antique Georgian cross, beautifully preserved from the late 18th Century and would look wonderful on the end of a silver chain.
