A grand antique Victorian signet ring from the late 19th Century built around a flat sardonyx seal with a soft lavender hue. It’s inlaid in a broad 9ct gold gallery with ornate decoration around the gallery and down the shoulders.

Signet rings have been worn throughout history as an identifying symbol of a person’s character, profession, or status. They were often personalised with an engraving, or intaglio seal, depicting the owner’s initials, personal emblem, or family crest that could also be used to stamp sealing wax on important documents.

The ring has remained in excellent condition over the centuries and bears the Maker’s mark and Birmingham hallmarks within the band, indicating it was made by “Vaughton and Sons” in 1871.
