A fabulous antique Victorian moonstone lavaliere necklace, featuring a fringe of twenty-one cabochon moonstones, with three more dangling from a long dropper at the bottom. The stones vary in shape and size, with one particularly pointy moonstone hanging from the dropper. All have a silvery-blue glow that intensifies with the light, as if moonlight is captured within.
The mystifying moonstone derives its name from the stone’s ethereal, luminescent light that was once believed to be moonlight in solid form. In Greek mythology they were associated with Selene, the feminine moon Goddess and said to be a path to love, wisdom and new beginnings.
The stones are all set in sterling silver frames, gilded in 18ct yellow gold, with a new cable chain and ring clasp added to the end. It’s a distinctive Victorian necklace from the late 19th Century, all in excellent condition with an enchanting assortment of moonstones on display.
