An exquisite antique Austro-Hungarian cross pendant from the late 19th Century, decorated with thirteen bright baroque pearls and twenty-one cherry-pink garnets that cluster in the centre and at each end, to form four and three-leaf clovers.

The Austro-Hungarian Empire ruled from 1867 to 1918 and was one of the largest western empires in the world. Their jewellery was celebrated for its elaborate and colourful design that took inspiration from 16th century Renaissance pieces. Four-leaf clovers are associated with luck, due to their rarity, but the more common three-leaf clovers are said to represent faith, hope and love and were used by Saint Patrick to illustrate the Holy Trinity.

This is a rare and highly collectable Austro-Hungarian cross pendant, fashioned in silver and ornately detailed with scrolling motifs on both sides. It’s exquisitely made and has a subtle gold gilt finish and small Austro-Hungarian hallmarks below the loop.
