An exquisite antique Victorian locket and collar fashioned entirely in silver and gilded in a bright 18ct yellow gold. The large locket is intricately embossed with a high-relief, east Asian-inspired nature scene, depicting graceful cranes amid blossoming trees in a tranquil river setting, while the reverse displays a simple belt and buckle loop motif. A hinged ring clasp connects it to a bold book link collar, which is lovely and smooth, with ornate detailing and open foliate motifs decorating the front of each.
Cranes were highly revered in East Asia and often represented longevity, good fortune and fidelity. Blossom trees symbolised the transient nature of life, renewal, and the fleetingness of time. Together, the images convey an appreciation of life and nature, whilst highlighting the importance of cherishing each day as it comes. Belt and buckles were also a popular love token in the Victorian era, with their unbroken loop and secure buckle epitomising eternal, everlasting love.
This remarkable Victorian locket and collar dates to the late 19th century and exhibits a wonderful combination of artistry and sentiment. A fantastic antique statement piece, all in excellent condition, with original rims and ample space within the locket to house two cherished photographs so your loved ones remain forever close to your heart.
