A sweet, little antique Victorian insect brooch comprising of two bright, vivid-green paste stones that resemble peridots, along with red paste eyes and seed pearl studded wings.
During the late 19th Century many were left longing to reconnect with the beauty of the natural world after the vast urbanisation of Great Britain. This brought about an abundance of romanticised Insect and butterfly pieces, decorated with colourful gemstones to highlight the beauty and value of nature.
The piece has been fashioned in silver and gilded in 18ct gold. It dates to the late-19th Century and would look beautiful pinned to a lapel.
