This exquisite antique Victorian Scottish brooch is crafted from natural agates, arranged in a scalloped “target” design. The plaid agates are skilfully cut and polished, with natural banded patterns and rich, earthy tones expertly inlaid into a substantial silver base.
Historically, these Scottish pebble brooches were worn to secure heavy wool shawls or kilt plaids at the shoulder. The style became a personal favourite of Queen Victoria’s whose frequent trips to Balmoral Castle saw her return with many beautiful souvenirs that influenced the trend across Britain.
Measuring generously in size, this Victorian Scottish agate brooch is in excellent condition and exemplifies the exquisite craftsmanship of the 19th century, with a bold, refined aesthetic, making it both a statement accessory and a collector’s treasure.
