An exquisite antique Victorian brooch from the late 1800s modelled in solid 9ct gold with a chased border and scrolling metalwork, overlaid on top of a detailed metallic blue guilloche enamel backdrop.
Guilloche enamel dates to the 17th century and became increasingly popular in the Victorian era. The process involves metal carefully worked by a lathe, or “Rose Machine” into a decorative pattern and overlaid with a colourful enamel to create a striking and highly detailed work of art.
A deep cherry pink almandine garnet is also crowned in the centre (approx. 1.7ct) with a halo of seed pearls encircling it. It’s desired for its blazing red flame that glows beneath its dark exterior and is considered a stone of passion and enduring love.
The piece has remained in pristine condition and is complete with a hidden locket on the reverse where a small photograph or lock of hair can be inserted and kept close to the heart.
