Dating to the late 19th century, this splendid antique Victorian amethyst and pearl pendant/ brooch is crafted in 15ct yellow gold. At its heart sits a large deep, velvet-purple oval amethyst of approx. 6.5 carats, encircled by a double halo of luminous seed pearls and smaller amethysts, culminating in a delicate dropper.
One can easily imagine this piece as the treasured possession of an elegant Victorian lady, pinned proudly to a high-necked lace bodice for an evening at the opera. Throughout history, the amethyst’s rich violet hue has been favoured by royalty, its depth of colour beautifully offset by the soft, natural lustre of pearls, together symbolising protection, love, and enduring devotion.
Whether you are a collector of Victorian jewellery or searching for a rare and meaningful antique gift, this versatile piece offers two looks in one. Wear it as a striking focal-point brooch on a blazer or dress, or suspend it from a fine gold chain as a statement pendant to carry the romance of the Victorian era with you wherever you go.
