An exquisite antique Victorian Scottish brooch from the mid 19th Century (Circa 1850). The piece is adorned with five natural Scottish agates that have been expertly cut and inlaid into a spiralling silver gallery with a matching coiled pin on the reverse.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid-1800s and was a personal favourite of Queen Victoria’s. Her frequent trips to her Scottish Castle Balmoral saw her return with many beautiful Scottish souvenirs and made them a highly desirable and sought-after accessory across Britain.
The piece showcases three different varieties of agate, each is mesmerising to look at up close and displays its own distinct colour and patterning that is naturally formed, giving it the appropriate nickname the "Earth Rainbow".
It's remained in pristine condition and is a wonderful antique treasure that is very collectable.
