This classic antique Edwardian Albert chain consists of solid silver curb links, each stamped with a sterling lion mark and gilded in a sunny 18ct yellow gold. It’s complete with its original claw clasps and a T-bar suspended from a length of chain at the bottom, likely a later addition. The clasps and bar are complete with hallmarks that have faded over time but indicate both components were made in Birmingham in the early 1900s.

Albert chains were both a stylish and functional accessory for gentlemen in the early 20th century, typically holding a pocket watch or fob and fastened to a waistcoat buttonhole for easy access. Today, they have evolved into versatile and fashionable necklaces, a tradition that began during World War I, when soldiers’ wives wore them as sentimental keepsakes.

Perfect worn as a traditional Albert chain or as a luxurious statement necklace, this exquisite piece is a timeless design that is as popular today as it was back then and this is a particularly fine example, with a heavy weight and bright yellow bloom.
