A striking pair of antique Georgian “Day and Night” earrings, adorned with two natural coral droppers with deep, salmon orange/pink colouring and faceted engraving. They’re set in ornate 18ct gold settings, with scrolled flourishes and are topped with two more engraved coral.
The round coral tops feature rope borders and are fitted with lever back hooks at the back so they can be worn on their own as daytime earrings, with the detachable droppers added later for a more glamorous evening event.
Coral is produced naturally in the depths of the ocean over thousands of years by tiny marine invertebrate known as polyp. It has long been worn as a protective talisman and exhibits fiery shades of pink, orange and red, making them a colourful alternative to other ocean treasures such as pearls.
These are a fabulous and versatile pair of antique Georgian earrings, dating to the early 19th Century and have both remained intact and in excellent condition across the centuries.
