This exquisite antique Georgian garnet bow brooch (Circa 1800) is beautifully set with natural flat-cut garnets in a combination of round, cushion and pear-shaped cuts. Each stone displays a desirable deep red-wine hue, enhanced by traditional Georgian foil-backing to intensify the colour and scintillation. They are elegantly arranged within a silver bow of intricately looped ribbons, accented by two stylised foliate drops and finished with a gold pin at the back.
Bows were a beloved motif in late 18th-century jewellery, symbolising unity, love and the tying of a romantic bond. Garnets were also traditionally exchanged as tokens of deep love and devotion, their fiery red-pink hues representing the hearts passion.
