An exquisite antique Georgian mourning ring from the late 18th Century featuring a glass window locket in the centre preserving plaited brown hair that belonged to a loved one from long ago. It was likely made after their death as a loving tribute and is deliberately framed in a border of blue turquoise cabochons which were often associated with forget me nots and symbolised love and remembrance.

The piece is crafted entirely in 18ct gold with a close back gallery and engraving down each shoulder along with two additional turquoise. It’s complete with Birmingham hallmarks within the band, dating to 1795 and also features a memorial inscription which has faded over time but the name “H. Wilcock” can be made out along with a date and the number 47 which was likely the age he passed away.

This is a rare antique find that was clearly very beloved and has been kept in excellent condition across the centuries.
