A magnificent antique Victorian collar necklace consisting of wide, ornate track links fashioned in silver and gilded in 18ct yellow gold. Each link is chased with beautiful depictions of forget me nots and ivy which were both popular motifs in the Victorian era.
Forget me nots are symbolic of eternal love and remembrance and were often paired with ivy leaves which similarly represented an unbreakable bond, as in the Victorian rhyme “Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee”.
The antique collar is also fitted with an extension of chain at the bottom with two ring clasps that can hold a locket or pendant. This can be detached if preferred or clipped to the collar to give it an additional 1.5 inches of length.
It’s a quintessential Victorian design, very grand and in excellent condition. It dates to the late 19th Century and would be perfect paired with a locket or pendant.
