A wonderful antique Victorian chain from the late 19th Century consisting of gold gilt book links which have developed a rosy-bronze hue with age. Each is engraved with an ivy leaf which in Victorian times represented a loving, unbreakable bond, as in the Victorian rhyme “Close clings the ivy to the tree, so in my heart I cling to thee”.
It’s a wonderful, articulated chain, in excellent condition and fitted with a new ring clasp at the end.
