A fabulous antique Victorian pendant from the late 19th Century featuring a colourful insect claw set with a glowing cabochon moonstone abdomen (approx. 1.3ct) and a blue sapphire thorax, with a violet amethyst resting at the top.
Insect jewellery grew in popularity at the turn of the 20th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.
It’s remained in excellent condition and would look beautiful on the end of a gold chain.
