A fabulous antique Victorian bar brooch from the turn of the 20th Century (Circa 1900). It features a wonderful dragonfly perched in the centre decorated with bright seed pearls across the wings and a blue sapphire in the centre, approx. 0.15ct.
Insect jewellery grew in popularity at the turn of the 20th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country and were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.
The slender bar is modelled in solid 9ct gold and fitted with a strong pin at the back. It’s very sweet and would look beautiful hovering atop a lapel.
