A wonderful antique Scottish anchor brooch made during the mid-Victorian era, Circa 1860. The front is inlaid with various natural agates which have been cut to fit the brooches unique shape and bring their own distinct texture and colouring to each section.
Anchors represent strength and stability and were considered a symbol of hope among seafarers as the dropping of the anchor signalled the end of a long journey at sea. They were often gifted to loved ones, showing that they regarded them as their own anchor, someone who grounds them and could always be depended on through the ups and downs in life.
The piece is fashioned in silver and features a spiralling silver rope which coils around the length of the piece.? It’s a wonderful design, highly collectable and a great statement piece.
