This exquisite antique Victorian Scottish Celtic cross brooch is skilfully crafted in 15ct yellow gold and built around a striking cairngorm centrepiece, exhibiting a dark-honey colouring and a small enamelled cross emblem engraved on top. It weighs approx. 30 carats and is securely claw set, with gold pommels surrounding and is further decorated with intricate engraving, highlighted in black and white enamel.

Scottish and Celtic themed jewellery grew in popularity in the mid-1800s and was a personal favourite of Queen Victoria’s whose frequent trips to Balmoral Castle saw her return with many beautiful souvenirs that influenced the trend across Britain. Cairngorm is the national gem of Scotland and is a distinct form of Smoky Quartz, named after the Cairngorm mountains, where it’s mined.

This grand Victorian Celtic cross brooch dates to the mid-19th century and is beautifully preserved, featuring a secure pin and safety chain. A great Victorian collector’s piece that would look perfect pinned to a lapel, bag or scarf.
