A pretty antique late Victorian butterfly brooch modelled in sterling silver and decorated with glistening, white, red and blue pastes that simulate the beauty of diamonds, rubies and sapphires.
Insect jewellery grew in popularity at the turn of the 20th Century due to a renewed love of the natural world following the vast urbanisation of the country. They were often decorated with colourful gemstones to enhance their beauty and value.
It’s a great collector’s piece and has remained in excellent condition.
