An exquisite antique Victorian Mizpah cross made in Birmingham in 1882. The large cross is fashioned in sterling silver and is lovely and smooth with an engraved floral branch growing up to the loop and large rose gold lettering across the centre bar.
“MIZPAH” is a Hebrew word meaning “Watchtower” and comes from the Old Testament; “The Lord watch between thee and me when we are absent one from another”. It became a popular motif during the Victorian era and was given as a token of protection and faithfulness.
It’s a wonderful antique treasure, in excellent condition and complete with clear Birmingham hallmarks on the back.
