A wonderful antique Victorian fob pendant depicting two crossed tennis racquets with a ball sat in between. It’s fashioned entirely in 15ct gold with fine, foliate patterning atop the base with a bloodstone seal underneath with speckled red spots.
Fob pendants were a fashionable accessory in the 19th Century, often worn on a chain alongside a pocket watch. The seal, which was sometimes engraved with an identifiable image or monogram could also be used to stamp sealing wax on important letters or documents, making them functional as well as stylish.
The piece dates to the late 19th Century and must have originally belonged to a keen tennis enthusiast. It’s a great collector’s piece and in excellent condition.
